Obituary for Julia P. Cohea

Julia Paula Cohea, a resident of Highland, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 after a brave and valiant three year battle with cancer.

Born on June 14, 1960 in Dearborn, Michigan, Julia was the youngest of two children to Lawrence and Evelyn (nee. Harhold) Cohea. Julia grew up on Lake Sherwood where the family enjoyed many friends, family gatherings and tight knit neighbors on the lake. She had a horse, Trigger, that she entered in shows while attending Middle School. She would go on to graduate from Lakeland High School with honors and a full ride scholarship to the University of Michigan. During her college years, Julia moved to California to continue to pursue her education in business and enjoy the adventures of working at Universal Studios. Upon her return to Michigan, she began her career as a financial advisor and worked many years with State Farm Insurance Company. She was blessed with her two daughters, Evelyn-Rose and Lauren and the family eventually made their home in Highland. Julia, along with her parents and children, were lifelong dedicated members of the Milford United Methodist Church.

Julia lived life to the absolute fullest. She was brilliant, generous and godly. She was selfless and kind, always putting others before herself. Julia was passionate about her children, her church and her friends and would do anything for the people she loved. As a young woman, Julia was active in her school’s plays and drama club, was a talented singer and loved to ski, all of which were loves she passed along to her daughters.

In 2015, Julia was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, which she tackled with deep faith, strength, intelligence and determination. She spent countless hours researching treatment methods and created her own treatment plan, which included supplements and a tailored diet. Truly an inspiration, Julia faced the last three years of treatment, surgeries and illness with a smile and a positive attitude. She fought to keep hers and her children’s lives as normal and uninterrupted as possible. Julia always found ways to make it work, just as she did with every aspect of her life — if something was wrong, Julia fought to make it right.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Evelyn-Rose and Lauren; her mother, Evelyn Cohea as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil “Larry” Cohea and brother, Little Larry.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 1-7 PM.
