Obituary for June Paddy

June Roberts Paddy was born in Detroit on June 25, 1919. She was the youngest of four children born to Gertrude and William Roberts.
June attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit followed by four years at the University of Michigan. There she met her beloved husband, Art Paddy, of 67 years while attending classes in their shared major of physical education.
June was innovative and creative in engaging and raising her children: Mike, Jan and Libby. In turn, she influenced the lives of her grandchildren and all the children she taught. June taught the lessons of life by engaging her children and grandchildren in activities; from the wonder of hatching chickens in the dining room hutch, raising guinea pigs, ducks and rabbits to learning about our environment first hand. She gave her children the freedom and independence to run and play from dawn until darkness fell in the natural surroundings of their lake home.
An educator by profession, she graduated over 800 children from the first grade. As a result of her creativity and innovation in the classroom, she did not let one child pass without the skills to read and write.
June and Art shared their love of sport throughout their lives. Both athletes, they enjoyed many years of golf and bowling with friends. June was also a football and basketball wife for over 55 years. Strongly competitive herself, she pursued bowling and maintained an average of over 600, bowling in two leagues into her 89th year.
June loved a challenge whether in sport, teaching, thought or creativity. She was a voracious reader, forever exploring the depths of human nature.
June was also a talented knitter and quilter, often looking for challenging designs. Junes love of beauty showed in her choice of dwelling, her bountiful gardens and her way of making the everyday special with a sense of the little things.
June Paddy loved her family, making her home their home. She facilitated a sense of beauty, the out of doors and adventure. She also enjoyed the visits and adventures of her grandchildren, Angela and Andy, and her great-grandson, Will.
June took great pleasure preparing food, especially new and fun desserts for her family and friends, bridge gals and colleagues. And she kept us all entertained with her love of story and storytelling with a bit of sparkle and embellishment.
June was an independent and inquiring thinker, a woman ahead of her time. June did it her way and we will deeply miss her.

June is survived by her beloved husband, Arthur; daughter, Libby Paddy; grandchildren, Andy (Marybeth) Howard, Angela Howard; great-grandson, William Howard; nephew, Tim Warner and many loving friends, former colleagues and students.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty, Milford on Sunday, March 1st at 3PM. Friends may gather with the family beginning at 2PM. Memorials encouraged to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Hospice of Michigan or the Michigan Humane Society. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
