Obituary for Keith DeMott

Keith DeMott, a resident of Milford, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008. He was 65 years old. Born on August 5, 1942, to Kenneth and Rexine (nee Kingsbury) DeMott, he and his five siblings grew up on a farm in Holly, and later in New Hudson. He met Clara Brown, the love of his life, while driving past her bus stop one morning before school. They began their lives together on September 14, 1963 in Clyde, Michigan, and soon after began a family of their own. Keith and Clara were blessed with the joy of three daughters and a son, and their children were the center of his world. Keith worked for General Motors and retired after 21 years.
An athlete at heart, he had a favorite team for every season and played softball and basketball every chance he had. Keith was also a car aficionado, enjoying the races at Milan and showing off his '63 Ford Galaxie. Although it couldn't go very fast, he truly loved his John Deere tractor and cared for it like it was a race car, even washing and buffing it by hand. Keith also had a love for music, listening to Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and Sgt. Barry Sadler were some of his favorites. Keith was a funny, sweet and caring man who was very sociable and knew no strangers. He had a short fuse but an even shorter memory, for he never held a grudge. He was gentle and affectionate and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Like his baseball, cars and music, he was an American classic.
Keith is survived by his loving wife, Clara; children, Patricia (Chris) Usery, Brian (Karen) DeMott, Dianna (Mark) McMillan; grandchildren, Nichole, Christopher, Amber, Taylor, Connor, Collin, Derek, Logan; mother, Rexine (Ronnie) Holbeck; siblings, Lorraine Smith, Denny, Harold (Mary), Norman, Leon (Sherry) and many loving extended family members and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley DeMott (d. 2008).
