Obituary for Kellie Ann Wooton

Kellie Ann Wooton, a lifelong resident of Milford, died at her home on July 27, 2019 at the age of 63.

Kellie Ann Wooton was born on May 4th, 1956, the third of four children of William and Mary Lou (Steinbaugh) Wooton. She was a tiny little preemie, but she rallied around and weighed a whopping 17 pounds by the time she was a year old. The Wooton family lived on Rowe Rd. in Highland Township, Michigan where she resided the majority of her life.

She showed an early affinity for music, as she loved to dance from place to place in her own little world. She loved her family, and her dollies as well.

She went to Huron Valley Schools bouncing between Highland Elementary and Milford. Her years at Milford High School were filled with musical and artistic pursuits. She was in the MHS band, both marching and wind ensemble, and in the orchestra for school musicals. In her senior year in 1974, she won the John Phillips Sousa award for the outstanding student in her high school band program. She enjoyed her art classes as well, particularly the metalsmithing program where she fashioned original copper and silver jewelry.

Following high school she attended Central Michigan University, majoring in music, minoring in art, to teach K-12 music and art education. After graduating she never stopped taking classes to enhance her skills, both at Eastern Michigan and through programs such as the Orff Method that engages students in integrating mind, and body with their musical efforts.

Her teaching career in Huron Valley Schools, mostly at Johnson Elementary in Milford, was her passion in life. The musical programs that she created and directed her students in were an outstanding example of both her talent and dedication. She retired from teaching in 2010. Upon retirement, she dedicated herself to caring for her dad until his death in September 2017.

Not long after her retirement, Kellie met John Robinson who became her companion for the rest of her life. John and Kellie spent much of their time with his daughters’ families and she became very fond of his grandchildren as they of her. Kellie also enjoyed engaging with many of her old Milford friends including her breakfast group, her card games group, and Questers. She was a member of the Milford Presbyterian Church and also attended the Milford United Methodist Church and made many friends in those places.

Her sudden and untimely demise was a shock to her family and friends and all that knew her. She will be especially missed by her sisters and their husbands; Pamela (David) Heinowski, and Shari (Christopher) Shepard, and by her six nephews and nieces including Scott (Danielle), Mike (Colleen) and Megan Heinowski, and Travis, Bradley (Haley Royer), and Haley Shepard. John’s grandchildren, whom she thought of with great love, will also miss her. She spent time with all of the nieces, nephews and grandchildren encouraging their talents, reading to them, and listening to their childhood hopes and dreams. Heaven has gained a one of a kind special and pure soul.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 1, from 5-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 2, at 11AM with The Rev. Doug McMunn officiating. Friends may gather on Friday from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Milford United Methodist Church or to World Vision.
