Obituary for LaVonne M. Mayville

LaVonne Marie Mayville (Narloch) peacefully passed away January 6, 2017 in her home, with her loving husband, William Mayville, at her side. LaVonne was 85 years old. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1931, the oldest child of William and Cecelia Narloch. In addition to her parents, LaVonne was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Narloch.
As a child, LaVonne lived in Remus, Michigan, until her family moved to Dearborn. She enjoyed spending summers visiting her grandmother’s boarding house where she and Grandma Sue kept busy cooking daily meals and baking pies. LaVonne loved playing outdoors, fishing, and picking wildflowers and berries.
LaVonne and Bill met at Lowrey High School and have been inseparable ever since. They had a wartime wedding on July 5, 1952 and the young newlyweds lived in many towns during Bill’s service to the U.S. Navy. LaVonne’s favorite port was St. Simons Island, Georgia, where she gave birth to the couple’s first child, Kathleen. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Michigan and bought their first home in Taylor. Here, the little family grew with the birth of two more children, Timothy and Suzanna.
LaVonne dreamed of owning acreage. She and Bill purchased property on Rowe Road in Milford where they built their present home. They have lived there for over 50 years. LaVonne was so very proud of her family and loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother more than anything. Her family is blessed with amazing memories of lively family gatherings, cousins’ weekends, and many craft projects, including the favorite of constructing and eating gingerbread houses. The mountain of gifts filling the large living room on Christmas Day created long-lasting memories for all.
LaVonne used her God-given talents to share joy in so many ways. She was a talented seamstress, fashioning doll clothes, costumes and wedding dresses for her children. A self-taught cake decorator, LaVonne baked birthday cakes and wedding cakes that were both beautiful and delicious.
LaVonne was a talented gardener whose family enjoyed her farm-to-table meals featuring fresh-picked vegetables. If not in the kitchen, LaVonne could be found outside working in the yard. She looked beautiful, smiling brightly in her wide-brimmed straw hat. She truly enjoyed being surrounded by God’s creation and nature. Whether starting seedlings in the greenhouse, working in her lush and enormous flower gardens, or making trips to farmer’s markets with her homegrown mums, veggies and flower bouquets, LaVonne did it all. Of course, Bill worked right alongside her. Signs of their devotion to each other are located throughout their home where Bill is fond of writing “Bill Loves LaVonne” in fresh paint projects, wet cement, and even in the snow of their ice-covered pond for all to see.
LaVonne was a life-long Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milford. Throughout the years, she has faithfully served the parish as a lay minister, sacristan, catechism teacher, and caretaker of the indoor plants.
LaVonne leaves behind her husband of 64 years, William Mayville; her sister Pamela (Howard) Benedict; her children, Kathleen (Frederick) Fiedler; Timothy (Toni) Mayville; Suzanna (David) Thome; her grandchildren, Douglas (Gretchen) Mayville; Brent (Michelle) Fiedler; Katherine Thome; Steven (Elizabeth) Mayville; Jane (Benjamin) Pitchford; and Matthew (Amber) Thome; her 8 great-grandchildren, Allie, Paige, Graham, Sarah, Mary, Ruth, Isaac and Aaron; and her beloved nephews Daniel Benedict; Jeffrey (Andrea) Benedict; and Andrew Benedict.
The Mayville Family would like to especially thank Jackie Scheck for her loving care and attention to LaVonne. Jackie and our wonderful caregivers from Age With Grace were Angels in our time of need.
