Lawrence Hill Markey, Sr., died peacefully on July 1, 2014. He was 90 years old, born in Detroit on April 24, 1924, the third son of Arthur and Inez (Hurd) Markey. Lawrence was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Noreen Ann. They were married on November 28, 1944. Lawrence was a Fighter Pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II. He enjoyed a long and successful career in the lumber industry, retiring from Nova Forest Products in 2009. An accomplished golfer, he was five-time club champion of Edgewood Country Club in Commerce. Lawrence and Noreen raised their family in Lathrup Village and then in Orchard Lake. They later lived in Milford, spending winters at Port St. Lucie, Florida where they were members of the Santa Lucia River Club. Lawrence is survived is by his sons Lawrence II (Suzanne) Markey, Michael (Martha) Markey, and daughters Christine (Gil) Karle, Cathleen (Evan) Macfarlane, Judy (John) Slanga, and Nancy (John) Macfarlane; grandchildren Wende Boerema (Richard), Bridget Vanker (David), Heather Childress (Shaun), Patrick Karle (Amy), Erin Burgstone (Michael), Andrea Walley, Megan Markey(John Cryan), John Slanga (Johanna), Katie Sumnicht (Matthew), Conor Macfarlane (Teresa), Katie Grisley (Lars), Kristen Lachtman (Darren), Gretchen Vogelei (Robert), Evan Macfarlane (Stacey), and great-grandchildren Christopher, Jameson, Schuyler, Kenna, Brendan, Kayla, Quinn, Meryl, Karina, Connell, Grace, William, John Patrick, Daniel, John Michael, Charles, James, John Joseph, Ciar�n, Anabelle, Michael, Evan and Carson.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Tuesday, July 8th at 11AM. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons on Monday, July 7th from 4-8PM. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
