Lawrence R. Green, a long time resident of Milford, died on November 13, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He was 83 years old.
Larry attended Denby High in Detroit for 3 years, then transferred to Plymouth (Michigan) High School from which he graduated in 1948. He received a B.S. from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) in chemistry in 1952. He taught math at Harbor Springs (Michigan) H.S. for a year, but he was a natural engineer and came back to the Detroit area to work briefly for Chrysler Corporation, then GM and then Ford. He once (at least) received an award for not missing a days work in many years. He was an inventor, and collected clocks, model train locomotives, musical instruments, cigar boxes and a lot more. Larry was a long time member of the Milford Historical Society, for whom he played the dulcimer during special events, was passionate about music, his Christian faith, and the King James Version of the Bible. He loved to think and talk and argue about theoretical physics, philosophy, theology, religion, and more.
Larry was preceded in death by Charlene Frances Blanchard Green, his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, in 2008; and a daughter, Nancy (Don) Chamblee, in 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Karl) Krueger of Macomb Twp.; grandchildren, Richard Krueger, Chelleney Eklund, Andrew J. Eklund, Sam Brown, Sarah Chamblee, Michael Chamblee and Hannah Chamblee; sisters Mildred Herman of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Carolyn Hartnett of Texas City, Texas; and brothers Raymond (Phyllis) Green of Arlington Heights, Illinois and David (Beverly) Green of Danbury, Connecticut.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford, on Wednesday, November 20, at 11 AM. Friends may visit at the church from 9AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Milford.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Milford Historical Society.
