Obituary for Lawrence Weston Grant

Lawrence Weston Grant, age 71, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan. He died of complications due to COVID-19. He will be forever known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was born in Garden City, Michigan on March 7, 1949 to Charles and Georgette Grant. He graduated from Dearborn High School in 1967. After high school, he served as a missionary for two years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission. Over his life, he was actively involved in his church community and was able to serve in various assignments and leadership positions; however, his favorite assignment was being the nursery leader for the congregation.

Larry graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Hazardous Waste Management and worked in various positions in manufacturing over his career. He was an avid sports fan and spent over 40 years officiating youth and community sports. He was always known to walk in with a smile and walk out with a smile. His example of teamwork and sportsmanship has had an impact on generations of athletes.

He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Fisher September 9, 1976. His greatest joy was raising three wonderful children, Edward, Andrew, and Melanie; and spending time with his three grandchildren, Kaylee, Ethan, and Nora. He was an avid gamer throughout his life and spent much time with his friends and family strategizing and competing at cards and board games. He was very involved in his community and would inevitably know someone anywhere he went. He always looked for opportunities for service and would often be found dropping off bagels at friends’ and neighbors’ homes.

Larry is survived by his wife Mary Ann Fisher; his three children, Edward (Ranelle), Andrew (Amanda), and Melanie (Nicholas Shawen); his three grandchildren, Kaylee, Ethan, and Nora; his siblings Joseph (Edna), Sharron Chu, Shirley, and Suzette (Gary) Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Georgette, and his brother Michael.

Larry consistently donated blood to the Red Cross every eight weeks and over the course of his life, he donated gallons and gallons of blood. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Red Cross:

Due to current health precautions a private ceremony will take place at Wixom Cemetery on Saturday, November 7 and we hope to have a celebration of his life when it is safe to do so.
