Obituary for Leola Elva Hayes

Leola E. Hayes, a resident of Linden, MI died in the late hours of Thursday, July 15, 2021. She was 73 years old.
Born in Pontiac, MI to Elva and Leo Lyons, Leola was thoughtful and compassionate towards those who had the pleasure to know her. Dearly loved by her family and friends, she always made time to share moments with loved ones. She had a way to make people around her comfortable with her kind heart.

Leola married her high school sweetheart, Dannie Hayes at the young age of 18. They were happily married for 38 years until Dan’s passing in 2004. They started their family in Pontiac with the birth of their first child Brian, followed 3 years later with the addition of David. At that time they moved to Highland, MI where they raised their boys and met many lifelong friends. In 2000 Leola and Dannie moved to Harrisville, MI to begin their retirement. Soon after, North Fort Myers became their winter home. They enjoyed the Michigan summers and Florida winters and spending time with their family and friends.

After several years of employment at Perry Drugs in Waterford she began her position as a Technical Analyst at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford. It was here where she met and created long-lasting friendships. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved her time with her grandchildren, Brooklyn and Teagan. Grandma YaYa, as she was known, was a big fan of sleepovers, beach days, makeovers and games with her grandkids.

After a move in 2008, she now called Linden her summer home to start new memories. Being close to her boys, daughter in-law Annette and grand children, Leola enjoyed life. She later embraced a new love with David Beck, who together shared many memorable times until his passing earlier this year.

Leola was a kind, warm hearted person that filled the room with positive feel good energy. Her compassion, kindness, personality and sense of humor will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Brian Hayes and David (Annette) Hayes; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Teagan Hayes; her brother, Tony (Diana) Zografos as well as many dear cousins, close friends and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dan Hayes (d. 2004); her mother, Elva Lyons (d. 1981) and her sister, Irene Parks (d. 2017).
