Obituary for Leonard A. Pietryga

Leonard A. Pietryga, age 79 and a longtime resident of Highland, MI, passed away in his home in the care of his family on February 23, 2014.

Leonard was born on April 19, 1934 in Merritt Township to Leo S. and Mary Rose Pietryga. He was the fourth oldest of fourteen children. Born and raised in Bay City, Leonard graduated from Visitation High School in 1952 and worked briefly at the L.B. Corporation before enlisting with the United States Air Force in 1954 and served until 1957. While in the service, Leonard was named Airman of the Month and Airman of the Year for Ladd A.F base in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1956 before being discharged in November, 1957.

Leonard enrolled at Michigan State University in 1958 and graduated in the summer of 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance Administration. Upon graduation, Leonard accepted a position with Ford Motor Company in the Controller�s Office where he worked as a cost, budget and financial analyst until retirement in December of 1992.

During his years at Ford, Leonard was also active in the Kiwanis Club of Dearborn Heights for thirteen years, serving in all offices including being president.

Leonard and his family moved from Dearborn Heights to Highland Township in 1974. He was a charter member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. He was active in the Men�s Club and a Fourth Degree Knight with the John Howard K of C Council 8500.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly in 2010 and is survived by sons, Michael and Matthew; daughter, Mary Ogle; grandchildren, Eric, Sarah, and Emily Pietryga, Zackary, Cameron and Mackenzie Ogle, and Mason Pietryga; brothers, Leo, Norbert, Clarence, Thomas; sisters, Patricia, Jane, Annette, Alice, Lorraine, many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 4-9 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 Harvey Lake Rd, Highland on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 10 AM with gathering beginning at 9 AM. The Rev. Fr. Wayne Ureel to officiate. Burial St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Bay City.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund or John Howard Knights of Columbus Council 8500.
