Obituary for Lewis "Reyn" Reynold Haack

Lewis Reynold (Reyn) Haack of Commerce Township, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the age of 95. After several months of declining health, he died peacefully with family by his side. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 1, 1926, the son of Elmer and Catherine (Peez) Haack.

Mr. Haack enlisted and served honorably in the Navy for two years on tour in the Pacific. After World War II and his return to Michigan, Mr. Haack attended Michigan State University and remained an avid Spartan fan throughout his life. On June 16, 1951 Reyn wed Marion Jean Connolly, the love of his life, at St. Mary of Redford Catholic Church in Detroit. Marion preceded Reyn in death on August 16, 2009 after fifty-eight years of marriage and raising eight children.

Mr. Haack retired from Ford Motor Company after a long career. He was an avid history and geography buff and especially enjoyed history related to the Civil War. Reyn and Marion enjoyed camping with their family and friends and belonged to several camping groups. Later in life they traveled the world with the Nomads and enjoyed many winters at their second home in New Port Richey, Florida.

Reyn was a gregarious man who enjoyed gatherings of friends and family members until his final days. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Netter of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; his children: Catherine (Tom) House of Harrison, Michigan, Susan (Dave) Colescott of Rockledge, Florida, James Haack of Commerce Township, Michigan, Mary Ann (Bob) Malone of Parker, Colorado, Sharon (Duane) Woerth of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Robert (Beth) Haack of Livonia, Michigan, and Julie Featherston of Clarkston, Michigan; his 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Catherine Haack; his eldest son, Eugene Haack; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eugene and Julia Connolly; his brother, David Haack and his wife Peggy Haack; his brother-in-law, Herman Netter; his brother-in-law, Eugene Connolly; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Ella Mae Gary.

A Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Tomy Kattikanayil will be held at Saint Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1955 East Commerce Road, Milford, Michigan on Tuesday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with a time of visitation also at the church from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. prior to the funeral. Burial will follow the funeral at St. Mary Cemetery a short distance from the church.
