Obituary for Louis J. Margiotta

Louis J. “Lou” Margiotta, a longtime resident of Lake Sherwood, Commerce Township, died peacefully on January 20, 2020. He was 76 years old.

Louis Joseph Margiotta was born on May 11, 1943, the youngest child of six born to Italian immigrants Dominic and Mary Margiotta. Lou grew up in Detroit, Michigan and was a graduate of St. Mary’s of Redford. He started his career as a car salesman at Emmert Chevrolet and that is where he met Carol Comstock. They started dating and quickly fell in love. They married on September 18, 1970 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Detroit.

After living in Farmington Hills for 4 years, they moved to their forever home on Lake Sherwood in Commerce Township where they raised their family and have lived for over 44 years. He was a patient and kind father to his girls and always made sure they were taken care of - including a full tank of gas, a warm coat, money in their pockets and plent to eat (especially pizza!)

Lou worked in sales with AAA before his retirement in 2007. He was a hard worker and immensely enjoyed his career of over 38 years. Even after retirement, he would get phone calls from customers asking his advice about their insurance.

He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, shooting pool, playing cards with friends and sitting in his backyard watching the boats go by. He and Carol enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe and the U.S. He was a great travel partner who loved seeing new places and meeting new people.

He was especially proud of his Italian heritage and one of the greatest joys in his life was the opportunity to take his entire family to Italy in 2010. There were able to meet cousins for the first time, see where his parents were raised, and the trip was blessed with his daughter’s engagement to be married.

Above all else, he loved his family and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He was blessed with 3 amazing daughters, 3 son-in-laws who he thought the world of and together blessed him with 9 grandkids who he doted on. His honesty, generosity, loyalty and sense of humor are all qualities he’ll be remembered for.

Lou will be missed by many, but most of all, by his wife, Carol; his three daughters, Dana (Dean) Frellick, Gina (Brooks) Boughton and Angela (Patrick) Lakin; grandchildren, Austin, Hunter, Bridget, Olivia, Noah, Luca, Cooper, Aniston and Morgan; sisters, Anna Marie Ferguson and Hilda (the late David) Patterson; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Mary Margiotta and siblings, Theresa Margiotta, Rita (Bill) Winter and Anthony Margiotta.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St, Milford on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 4 to 8 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce St, Milford on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at the church at 10:30 AM. A luncheon will follow. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield on Saturday.
