Obituary for Lucille Marie Watson

Lucille Marie “Lou” Watson, 98, passed away peacefully at home in Ann Arbor on June 7, 2022.

She was born January 3, 1924 in Ramsey, Ohio to Ludwik and Aniela (Oleksy) Waligora, who preceded her in death. On July 2, 1949 she married Samuel C. Watson, who also preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Margaret (John) Puch, Ted (Celia) Waligora, Helen (Ray) Zebrowski, and Alexander “Bill” Waligora; her son, Paul Watson; and her son-in-law, Bob Arthurs.

Survivors include daughter, Carol S. Watson; son, Dennis (Mary Ann) Watson; three granddaughters: Sara Watson Arthurs, Claire Aniela (Gabriel Klavun) Arthurs, and Eva (Justin) Driver; stepgrandson, Glenn Murdzia; sister-in-law, Eunice Waligora; daughter-in-law, Linda Donovan; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Watson, Paul Robison, and Weston, Hadley, and Lillian Driver; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The daughter of immigrants, Lou was proud of her Polish heritage. Among the many delicious dishes she cooked were golabki and pierogi, and at family weddings, she and Helen would dance a mean polka, putting younger family members to shame.

The sisters worked in the Willow Run plant as Rosie the Riveters during World War II. Lou’s job was inspecting the items as they came off the line.

She and Sam took their children on trips all over the United States when they were young. Later in life, the couple traveled internationally for many years, including a particularly special trip to Poland. While living in Milford, they became members of St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, a relationship which continued when they later moved to Brighton.

Lou loved to read, especially mystery novels, and had a famous sweet tooth. She kept her sense of humor well into old age. She treasured her family across the generations, wrote letters to her granddaughters when they were younger, and was beloved “Aunt Lou” to her many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows in Milford, MI on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 am. Visitation begins at the church at 10:00 am

Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, The American Heart Association, and St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows.
