Obituary for Madelene Theresa "Maddie" Robert

Madelene Theresa Maddie Robert, a resident of Independence Village in White Lake and a former long time resident of Redford Twp., died on February 13, 2013 at the age of 88.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Joseph Robert, and is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Ron) Roman, Margaret Meg Rouleau, and Theresa (Bob) Kubsik; her son, Joseph A. (Cynthia) Robert; grandchildren, Daniel (Kris) Roman, Ann Marie (Matt) Isaacson, Sara Kubsik, Kathryn Robert; great grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Lauren and Claire Roman, Vivian and Declan Isaacson; nephew, Daniel T. (Maureen) McGurn; niece, Ellen (Brian) Ranta; great nephew, Flynn McGurn; great nieces, Shauna and Bree Ranta, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raphael, Russell & Thomas (Marilyn) McGurn.

Madelene was a graduate of Fordson High School and the Detroit Conservatory of Music. She worked for several years for American Blower and it was there that she met her future husband who heard her vocalizing and inquired about the singer.

She had a lifelong passion for music and sang with many Detroit area choirs, including the Detroit Rackham Symphony Choir, the Dearborn Choral Arts Society/Vanguard Voices, the St. Valentine Parish Vocal and Bell Choir, Schoolcraft Choir and, most recently, the Huron Valley Community Choir, from which she retired at age 83.

Madelene shared her music generously with others and was a much sought-after wedding vocalist. She supported the music program at Independence Village and was a frequent lead singer at sing-alongs and musical performances.

One of her proudest moments as a singer was a solo performed for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican during the St. Valentine Choir 1996 concert tour.

Madelenes sweet, clear, effortless soprano voice was a fitting representation of the gentle person who stood behind the music.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Sunday, February 17, 2-9PM, with a Rosary at 7PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Rd., Highland on Monday, February 18, at 10AM with The Rev. Fr. Leo Lulko officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Memorials may be made in her name to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
