Obituary for Margaret Mary Aretha

Margaret Mary Aretha, age 90, died peacefully surrounded by her family on December 24, 2018.

Marge was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 14, 1928 to Lamdala and Samiey Aretha. Being the oldest of five children with 4 younger brother’s forced her to be very competitive.

As she grew into a young women, she became fiercely independent and was promoted to vice president of Beckwith Evans until 1984 when she ‘retired’ to start her own well known business in Highland, MI., Carpet Classics, which she owned and operated until the year 2000.

Marge was always up for an adventure and loved traveling the world. She was an expert at downhill skiing and skied in some pretty remote areas from the Canadian Rockies to the Swiss Alps. She loved photography and while out west trying to capture that perfect photo, she was chased by a grizzly bear; the photo is blurry! She also excelled at golf and rarely played a round without a small wager involved. Other activities she was fond of were cooking, science, softball, traveling and technology. Always eager to learn she never stopped trying to master her iPad, or try something new.

She was the host of all special gatherings at her home, serving her famous baklava and beef tenderloin for all to enjoy and she cherished the conversations and time spent with her friends and family.

Her passing on Christmas Eve 2018 brings significance for another reason. It marks the 50th anniversary of mankind’s first glimpse of earth from the moon. As the crew of Apollo 8 circled the moon, they captured that iconic , color photo of earth which seems so appropriate as Marge now dances with the angels.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Lamdala and Samiey and her brothers, Raymond, Leo and Bernard and is survived by her brother, Lawrence (Patricia) Aretha; sisters in law, Julia (Leo d. 2017) and Margaret (Raymond d.2016); nephews, Keith, David, Kevin, Mark, Michael and James; niece, Kris; great nieces and nephews, Mary, Angela, Noah, Joel, Patrick, Ben, Ryan, Nicholas, Kyle and Emma as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Friday, December 28, from 3-8PM with a Rosary at 7:00PM.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Rd., Highland on Saturday, December 29 at 10:00AM with gathering to begin at 9:00AM. Committal will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield at 1:30PM.
