Obituary for Mary Jean Klebba

Mary Jean Klebba (Probe) passed away on February 28th, 2021 at the age of 81, with 2 of her 4 children by her side in Commerce Twp., Michigan. With joy for her beautiful life and sadness over her passing, her family thanks all those who prayed for her, loved her and cared for her.

Mary Jean was born to Rita Helen and Jacob Joseph Probe in Detroit, Michigan on May 12th, 1939. She was the third oldest child in a family of 8 children. She attended St. Mary’s of Redford Catholic School and parish and graduated in 1957. Mary Jean then enrolled in Nursing school at Mount Carmel Hospital in Detroit, MI. She became a Registered Nurse and began working at Mount Carmel Hospital, starting a long and successful career in nursing. She married her long time schoolmate, Gerard “Gerry” Klebba from St. Mary’s of Redford in July of 1961. They were blessed with 4 children: Kathleen (Ray) Bloink, Gerard (Loretta) Klebba, Jr., Susan (Mark) Balash, and Mary (Bernard) Rezny. She is survived by sisters, Bette J. (Donald) Johnson and Rita E. (Leslie) Jackson and brother, John J. Probe. She is preceded in death by her husband Gerard Klebba, daughter Kathleen Bloink, brother Don J. Probe, and sisters Joann M. Sinkowski, Alice I. Norman and Nancy S. Lambert.

Mary Jean worked for 42 years in the nursing profession, with patient education at the heart of her service. With several of her own family members affected by Diabetes, she became a fierce advocate for Diabetes care. She was a pioneer in Diabetes Education and was a founding member of the Michigan Organization of Diabetes Educators. She worked tirelessly on behalf of her patients, and family members. She received the “American Association of Diabetes” Educator of the Year award in 1988. In the latter part of her career she moved to Grand Rapids, MI to continue her mission. She retired from Nursing in 2003, but missed the interaction with her patients and families. So she spent time doing home health teaching for a few more years.

Above all, it was her faith in God and devotion to family that was by far the most substantial part of her life. She was baptized Catholic, devoted to the Eucharist and a great devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She loved God with all her heart and genuinely desired everyone she met to know His immense love for them. Her family, especially her kids, always knew she walked with God every step of her life. She loved music and passed that on to all of her kids and grandkids as well. Mary Jean was always singing and dancing, including tap dancing into her 60s! One of her favorite hymns “How Can I Keep From Singing” made so much sense to her as she knew without a doubt that God loved her and had blessed her with so much, in spite of any hard times she had endured. All of her Grandchildren include: Emily (Andrew) Radecki, Rachel Bloink, Daniel Bloink, Lindsay (Christopher) Duke, David (Jennifer) Balash, Evan Balash, Bridget Rezny, Olivia Rezny, Adam Rezny, Herbert Jr. (Melissa) Holstein, James (Kara) Holstein, and Lisa Holstein. Caleb Radecki, Benjamin Duke, Cecilia Radecki, Alexander and Andrew Holstein, Hunter and Xavier Hostein, Anastasia, Jorian and Isaiah Gessert, and Josiah Johnson are all of her Great Grandchildren!
