Obituary for Mary Ellen Wildt

Mary Ellen Wildt, a resident of Milford, passed away at her home on Friday, April 24, 2009. She was 74 years old. Born in Detroit on August 23, 1934, Mary was the daughter of Howard & Grace James. She grew up in Detroit, graduating from MacKenzie High School before beginning her study at Albion College where she majored in English & French and minored in Spanish languages. While at Albion, she met Maurice Wildt, the love of her life and they began the first of their forty-two years together. On August 18, 1956, shortly after graduating with her Bachelors degree in education from Albion, Mary & Maurice were married in Detroit and made their home in Berrien Springs, Michigan, before moving to Muskegon Heights. Five years later, they moved to Dearborn, raising their children while Mary also completed study to obtain her Masters degree from Eastern Michigan University. She resumed her teaching career as a substitute before her longtime tenure with Power Middle School and Farmington High School. In the early 1980s, Mr. & Mrs. Wildt moved to Milfords southside where they enjoyed maintaining their home for their children and grandchildren to visit.
Mary enjoyed being engaged in many community activities and social events with her wide circle of friends. She was active with Questers, the On our Own group, the Farmington High School retirees group, and with various committees through Milford United Methodist church where she enjoyed worship and fellowship. The proud owner of a classic Thunderbird and '64 red Mustang, she was also active with Milfords Car Club, often seen with her son driving in the annual parades.
Her 7 grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She delighted in their talents and accomplishments and was always in attendance at their vocal, music and band concerts, robotic and swimming competitions, dance recitals, graduations, softball, soccer and lacrosse games, Pom and equestrian competitions and so much more. Although she enjoyed opportunities to travel, returning home for family parties and gatherings were the events she and her husband treasured the most. They have started many family traditions, including Easter egg hunts and birthday celebrations and passed along family recipes and well-told histories that will live with future generations. Their legacy echoes in reminding that family and friends are everything.

Mrs. Wildt was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice. In addition to her daughters, Bonnie (William) Goodrich, Carol (Bruce) Bagdady and son, Larry (Tomoko) Wildt, she is survived by her grandchildren, Jenny (Hiep), Justin (fiance, Kayte), David, Allison, Andy, Rachel, and Becky. Her extended family and many loving & longtime friends also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held at Milford United Methodist Church, 1200 Atlantic Street, Milford, Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10 AM with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial Acacia Park Cemetery.
