Obituary for Mary Louise "Lou" Messana

Mary Louise “Lou” Messana, 66, of Milford, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Mary Lou was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 10, 1954 to the late William and Josephine Slattery. Her family resided in Ohio and New Jersey before coming to Michigan. After college, Mary Lou worked in various roles before taking a job with General Motors. It was while working for GM, that she met the love of her life, Rocco V. Messana. The two of them would marry on July 7, 1987 and start a family. A few years after the birth of their youngest, she decided to leave her management role to stay home and raise the children full time. For Mary Lou, this was the best decision she ever made. She absolutely loved being a mom, her kids were her pride and joy. She embraced every moment and gave her children a wonderful upbringing.

Mary Lou was always involved with her children’s school, Mother’s club and extracurricular activities, helping out whenever there was a need. She was always there contributing her time; Mary Lou’s generosity touched many. She made several dear friendships over the years that she cherished greatly. She was a strong woman, devout in her Catholic faith. She instilled the values of family in her children and always loved when all of them could be together. It brought her comfort to have a strong faith in God and be surrounded by those who shared an outlook of love and kindness for others.

She was an inspiration to not only her family, but to all of those who crossed her path. Mary Lou will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Beloved wife of Rocco V. Messana for 34 years. Loving mother of Matthew Messana, M.D. and Melissa Messana. Dear sister of Patricia “Coleen” Stevens (Carl), Kathleen Kingsbury (late (Roger), Jeffrey Slattery (Patricia “Patti”), Eileen Lynch (David) and the late James Slattery. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
