Obituary for Mary "Marlene" Anna Wilk

Mary Anna “Marlene” Wilk of Milford, died at her home at the Suncrest Assisted Living facility on August 27th, 2021. She was 95 years old. Born on August 26, 1926, in Detroit, she was one of 11 children of Joseph and Sophie Sikora. She grew up in Detroit and worked at Federal Screw, Lear Jet and Kerr Manufacturing from which she retired.

As a young woman, Marlene was introduced by a close friend to Julius “Jerry” Wilk shortly after his return from duty in WWII. A courtship developed and grew and on September 29th, 1947 they married. During their marriage, the couple welcomed three daughters, Gail, Debbie and Kim into their lives and raised them in their Detroit home. After the children had grown and left, they moved to Redford Township and then eventually settled in Milford in 2000. During their time in Milford, Jerry and Marlene made many friends and acquaintances. They were frequent visitors at the Highland and Milford senior centers. In 2005, the love of her life, Jerry, passed away after 57 years of marriage.

Marlene loved gardening and always kept beautiful plants around her. Even in her later years at the Suncrest Assisted Living facility, she was devoted to keeping her area beautiful with a wide variety of delightful plants for all to enjoy. Throughout her life, Marlene loved music and dancing. It was not uncommon at Suncrest to hear music coming from her room in the morning as she got ready for her day.

Marlene is survived by her 3 daughters, Gail Wilk, Debbie (John) Douglas, and Kim (Kirk) Herman; grandchildren, Andrea (Aaron) Seligman, Michelle (Jeffrey) McWilliams, John Douglas, and Kacy (Nick) Schulkey, Keith Herman, and Kelsey (Timothy) Gault; great grandchildren, Dominic, Alexandra, and Riley along with one more great grandchild on the way.; siblings, Edward Sikora, and Delores Wojnowski; also many extended family and dear loving friends.

Marlene is also preceded in death by her special niece, Karen (Bob) Holappa.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381 on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 from 1 - 8pm, with a Time of Sharing to start at 7 PM.
