Obituary for MaryAnn Wagner

MaryAnn was born on June 6, 1936 to Edmund and Ann Jesionowski in Glassport, PA. The end to WWII and the auto industry brought her family to Michigan in 1945 where they settled in Melvindale. She met her husband William Wagner when they both worked at Sam’s Department Store in Dearborn while in their teens. They married in 1956 and raised 4 children in Livonia, Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Sue) Wagner, Cynthia (Joseph) Robert, William Wagner and Daniel Wagner. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Stephanie (Will) Miller, Kathryn Robert, Tiffany (Josh) Thick, Jackie Bommarito, Tom (Kelly) Bommarito and great-grandchildren, Grace and Hayden, Jason, Tommy, Anthony, Alex and Bella. Her faith and family were very important to her. She maintained a loving relationship with her niece, Catherine (Denny) Chester and nephew, Edmund (Irina) Jesionowski, great-nieces and nephews, and many family members from the Pittsburgh area. She resided in Highland Township for the last 15 years.

MaryAnn warmly made a house a home while supporting her husband’s auctioneering and liquidation business. Mom Wagner’s side door was always open and everyone was welcome. The kitchen table was always a place ready for conversation, love and laughter. Whether it was a neighborhood game night that might have lasted till long after midnight, or a homemade feast, with cold beer in the fridge and a fresh pot of coffee brewing. She hosted holidays, birthdays, weddings, or pop-up impromptu parties like no other. On weekends during the summer, MaryAnn and Bill enjoyed the company of friends and family at their Lake Erie cottage in Canada. Music filled the household. She played the accordion, piano and organ. It was not unusual to hear the Beer Barrel Polka on any given day, as she was proud of her 100% Polish heritage. She loved all music genres. Motown & Elvis were her favorites. She was the biggest fan of her son Michael’s band. She hosted the band and open “jam” sessions in the basement for many years and attended many of their concert venues, always supporting and celebrating their love for music.

In her earlier days, she loved to dance, play softball, waterski and roller-skate. She participated in church fundraisers, and was deeply involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s interests and activities. She always watched and followed her favorite sports teams, especially the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and enjoyed attending live plays and musicals with “her girls”.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edmund Jesionowski, and her husband, William of 37 years before his death in 1993.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the future at Church of the Holy Spirit, Highland.

Memorials may be made in her name to:
