Obituary for Matthew D. Dick

Matthew D. Dick, 37, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on May 31, 2018.

Matthew was a graduate of University of Detroit-Mercy and had been working as a research and statistical consultant for Eastern Michigan University’s Graduate school. Dedicated to academics, he had been accepted into a PHD program for statistics. Matthew had spent his career trying to help families deal with their financial crises, to obtain their first homes, and to help students and professors become better scientists at EMU. Throughout his life, Matthew always made helping others a priority, donating hundreds of hours of his time to worthy groups.

Matthew was a devoted father to his two beautiful daughters whom he treasured as the most important part of his life. Matthew was an avid lover of all things Irish and Scottish, often attending Irish music festivals, taking part in Scottish Strongman competitions, and drumming on his bodhran. He also had quite the green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed caring for his many plants. Matthew loved children and valued his time with his Godson, William Odhiambo, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Matthew also had an enormous network of loyal friends with whom he loved to spend his time.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Michele Dick and Michael Dick; his brother Michael Dick (Natalie); his sister Melissa Zerwas (Ryan); his fiancée, Samantha Bialokur; his beloved daughters, Alora Morgan and Lillian Marie Dick; his aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life ceremony on June 16, 2018 will be held at his brother’s home, 3541 Harvey Lake Road, Highland, MI 48356. Guests are welcome to arrive at three in the afternoon; the service will begin at four in the afternoon, with wake to follow.

*Matthew had requested that attendees please wear blue in his honor.*

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked for his daughters’ college funds to be sent to Michele Dick, 3816 Taggett Lake Drive, Highland, MI 48357.
