Obituary for Merlin A. Feigley

Merlin A. Feigley, a lifelong resident of Milford, died on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was 94 years old.

Born on October 23, 1926 in Galion, Ohio, he was the son of Elmer M. and Georgia Mae (Steffey) Feigley. After high school Merlin served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War before returning to Milford and joining his brother, the late Cloyd Feigley, in their enterprise on General Motors Road, Feigley Motor Sales where Merlin managed the Service Department which was a value-added portion of the Feigley dealership: you not only got a shiny new Buick or Oldsmobile, you got a promise of great maintenance and service too. Merlin had started another dealership, in Colorado, where he’d moved in 1960 with his wife, Libby and their young children. He returned to Milford after the death of his daughter, Rosemary, and went to work with his brother on G.M. Road. He was a longtime volunteer with the Milford Fire Department and the oldest, longest-standing member of the American Legion Post 216 in Milford.

Merlin Feigley lived the full register of life’s contingencies, its heartbreaks and victories, facing good times and hard times with the abiding sense that life is a gift to be lived to its fullest and shared abundantly with one another. He was the life of the party, a joy on the dance floor, fierce fan of football – the Detroit Lions and Ohio State --and a boxing aficionado. He was, likewise, a reliable friend in times of trouble, ever willing to shoulder his portion of the sadness at hand. He would always show up, pitch in and do his part, believing, as a lifelong Methodist, that God would take care of the big things if we would take care of one another.

Merlin was the beloved husband of the late Dolores;  loving father of Michael Feigley (Demi) and the late Rosemary Feigley and the late Terry Feigley; proud grandfather of Amanda Feigley and Kari Feigley.  Dear brother of the late Cloyd Feigley, and the late Elsie Hinzmann.  Step-father of Susan D’Astoli, Kathy Hendley, Peggy McVea, and the late SFC Douglas Stone and proud step-grandfather of January and Quin Hooper, Hunter, Dave and Sarah Hendley, and Nate and Cameron Stone. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his former wife and mother of son Michael, Libby Feigley.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 12 noon -5:00pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 10:00am at the funeral home.

Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12 noon at Milford Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
