Obituary for Michael Frank Jakubiec

Michael Frank Jakubiec, of Novi, passed away on February 3, 2017, with his daughter by his side. He was 69 years old.

Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 19, 1947. He grew up in the Greenview and Warren Ave. area of Detroit. He graduated from Cody High School in 1965. After graduating, Michael served from 1966 -1967 as a Navy SeaBee in Da Nang, Vietnam. He was awarded with; Vietnam Service Medal, Two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.

After his time of service he was transferred into the reserves and became a truck driver before joining the Detroit Free Press back home in Michigan. Michael had different job designations while at the Free Press. The one he most enjoyed though, was delivering the papers. Sometimes with his kids in the back of the truck helping him unload the paper bundles until they fell asleep. Michael worked there for 25 plus years until the strike of 1995. After a long fight with the paper, he moved on to mail room manager for BBDO. After working there, he eventually retired from Livonia Public Schools as a Bus Driver for the little rascals. He most enjoyed driving the grade schoolers. They brought him cookies and gifts which he cherished very much.

Michael lived in other areas of Michigan such as Plymouth and Novi. Michael has a legacy of being known for his diligence, dedication, and loyalty to everything he believed in and loved. Michael is also recognized as a “True Patriot” . He supported his troops with honor and pride. He also was involved with the American Legion, Stitt Post No. 232 where he had many friends that he called family. Michael had a great sense of humor, was known as a “sports nut”, had a passion for red cars, but most of all his family is what meant most to him. Michael loved so much to be a Grandpa and enjoyed every waking second with his grandchildren. As his passing is so unexpected, Michael will be
missed forever. What will never be lost is how much he was loved, and how he touched so many lives within his family, friends, and community. Michael will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him. The memories of the times everyone had with him will be forever cherished.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Loretta Jakubiec. He is survived by his children, Kimberly (Kevin) Rocheleau, and Michael Edward Jakubiec; grandchildren, Tristen, Lucas, and Declan Rocheleau, Timothy and Anna Jakubiec. His brother, Wally (Ginnie) Jakubiec; also very many extended family, and friends.
