Mildred Lorraine Hewitt (Fawcett), a resident of Milford for over sixty one years, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016. She was 97 years old.
Lorraine was born on November 1, 1918 in Grover Hill, Ohio to Benjamin Harrison and Zelia (Crone) Fawcett. She was raised on a farm with two sisters, the late Ettie (the late Virchow) Ridings of Farmington, Michigan, Alice (the late Dutch) Morris of Van Wert, Ohio and brother, the late George (the late Dorothy) Fawcett.
Following elementary school, Lorraine’s family moved to Michigan where she attended Farmington Public Schools. After graduation, Lorraine had several jobs, including working for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for ten years.
In 1940, she married Lawrence Hewitt and continued to live in Farmington where their son Lawrence was born. They built a house and moved to Milford in 1956. After Lawrence’s death in 2002, she continued to live in Milford until her passing. As she began declining, Larry cared for her 24/7. She loved shopping and finding a bargain. She looked forward to her daily rides with Larry. Lorraine had a wonderful sense of humor and called her walker “her Harley”. She loved to get a hot dog, no bun, at Costco for lunch.
Her favorite places, besides Milford were Florida and Manistee, Michigan. She enjoyed a visit to Florida during the winter. She loved going in Larry’s boat and catching salmon in Lake Michigan. She was part of the crew and did her job well. Often they would stop in the Little River Casino and she would win a few dollars on the penny slots and what fun that was.
Lorraine was always thankful for her wonderful husband, Lawrence and their fifty seven years together. She appreciated everything her son, Larry, did for her.
She leaves her son, Lawrence, her sister, Alice and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed and always remembered for her kindness and special peach pineapple pie.
