Obituary for Nancy Armstrong

Nancy (Bessen) Armstrong was born March 17, 1948 to Edwin & Claire (Berthiaume) Bessen in Highland Park, Michigan. On July 15, 1966, she married Terry Armstrong and began the role she excelled in as the faithful wife and mother of three children. She would claim that early in her life, she worked hard to please people and God. These efforts did not bring her peace and she felt that they were never good enough. Shortly after the birth of her third child, she discovered that Gods salvation was a free gift that did not require her efforts.
Nancys faith in Jesus Christ brought her to a relationship of peace and joy that affected every aspect of her life. She was devoted to her family and could often be found on her knees on their behalf. She loved her church, Cornerstone in Highland, and served there as a loving teacher to 4 and 5 year olds for over twenty-five years.
Quoting her journals, we can see the desire of Nancys heart, Can I make a difference in the life of a child that will last for eternity? How can I make my children feel loved? God answered these questions by using Nancy to impact the lives of many children over the years. She was an inspiration as her impact extended to other teachers, friends and coworkers. For the past twenty years, Nancy has worked as a Sales Secretary for WMUZ Christian Radio Station.
On May 24, 2010, Nancy went home suddenly to be with her Lord at the age of 62. In addition to Terry, her beloved husband of over 43 years, Nancy is survived by her daughter Angie (Steve) Cusick, her son Dan (Jackie) Armstrong, and daughter Sarah (Jeremy) Thurmond, and 10 grandchildren, Ben, Robert, Kyle, David, Hannah, Rebekah, Levi, Jessikah, Aaron, and Nathan. Nancy will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her life. Comfort is found knowing that she is praising the Lord, as she always loved to do. She is hearing from God Himself, Well done, good and faithful servant Enter into the joy of your Lord, Matthew 25:21.

A Funeral Service will be held at Cornerstone Church of Highland, 4995 Hickory Ridge Road in Highland Twp., on Thursday, May 27, at 11AM. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford, on Wednesday, May 26, 2-9PM. Memorials may be made in her name to the Kids on the Rock Childrens Ministry at Cornerstone (checks made payable to Cornerstone). For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
