Obituary for Naomi B. Hancock

Naomi B. Hancock (nee Glancy), a lifelong resident of Highland, died August 2, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old. Born in Highland on April 26, 1918 to Herbert and Blanche (nee Nash) Glancy, her childhood years with her brothers and sisters were full and happy. Her father was a founding member of Highland Church of the Nazarene and she remained an active member all her life. Naomi graduated from Milford High School in the Class of 1937 and soon after celebrated her graduation from beauty school. She enjoyed her career as a beautician and for over 60 years, in her own shop or in her home, she brought friendship, laughter and beauty to all her wonderful clients. On October 1, 1960 she wed her sweetheart, Alan Hancock with whom she shared her every joy and success until his death in 2004. She was an avid knitter and the love she stitched in every knit and perled row was as obvious as the sparkle in her eye when each afghan was completed. Many of her blankets and lap robes were treasured by the residents of West Hickory Haven Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan (d.2004) and a son, Chuck Beatty (d.1985) and is survived by her daughter, Linda Parrish of Tempe, AZ; stepson, David (Pat) Hancock of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer Fink and Adam Parrish, Nathan and Jason Hancock and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Ethel Simula, and many loving extended family members and dear friends who mourn the loss of such a dear woman and celebrate the legacy of love she left behind.

A Funeral Service will be held at Highland Church of the Nazarene, 1211 W. Livingston, Highland, Saturday, 11 AM with Pastor B. Michael Hefner. Burial at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may gather Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 4-9 PM with a time of sharing 7 PM on Friday at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI.
