Nelson A. Taber, a resident of Milford, died on November 16, 2008. He was 86 years old. Born in Espereance, NY, on June 6, 1922, he was the son George and Pearl (Manchester) Taber and grew up in New York. He went on to serve his country as a thirty year veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded numerous medals and citations during his years of service, including the Silver Star and Bronze Star. He was a POW during WWII having been captured in North Africa early in the war, and was active in the Ann Arbor VA POW group for many years.
After his retirement from the US Army, the Tabers moved to Milford where he enjoyed his children and grandchildren, their friends and pets. After his beloved wife, Virginia died he lived with his daughter Denise for several years, where her cat, Theo, became a very special friend. Always independent, he moved to Milford Park Place in 2005. A man who had experienced all the horrors of war, he will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness and rich humanity.
