Obituary for Nora Lee Wilson

Nora L. Wilson, a long time resident of Milford, died in the care of her family at Neighborhoods of White Lake on November 29, 2017 at the age of 84. She is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior.

Nora was born on March 12, 1933 in Coolspring, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harold and Sara Fordyce Martin. After high school she began nurses training and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh’s Nursing Program. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at the Mt. Gilead Hospital in Ohio, before moving to work at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Following, she worked at Dr. Gibson’s practice in Milford. She was very proud of her work and service as a nurse, and that love inspired members of her family to devote their lives to nursing as well.

On May 19, 1956 she wed the love of her life, Dick Wilson, in the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Later that year, they came to Milford where Dick was employed at the General Motors Proving Grounds. In 1965 they built a house on Lake Sherwood in Commerce Township where she was known as the “neighborhood nurse”. Later they returned to the village of Milford, where they have been long-time members of the Milford Presbyterian Church. Nora was a devoted member of the church. She was active with the Presbyterian Women both local and national, MPC women’s bible study, the MPC Health Ministry, and Stephen Ministry.

Nora was ever giving with her time and talents and was a great organizer. She and Dick were involved with the Jaycees in the starting of Milford’s Central Park. One of her proudest accomplishments was the Lakeland High School Band performing at the Orange Bowl in 1976. She organized the first Palmer Drug Abuse (PDAP) program in Michigan. She believed that anything was possible… She and Dick made a great team in all of her efforts and projects.

Nora loved her family and friends dearly. She was ever ready with a little personal gift, a hug, or a tease that would make you laugh. She was pure joy to those around her and she will be dearly missed.

In addition to Richard “Dick”, her beloved husband of over sixty-one years, she is survived by daughters, Kathy (Norman) Baer of Portland OR and Judi (Greg) Chanski of Hudsonville, MI; sons, Rick (Gloria) Wilson of Milford and David (Valentina Stamenova) Wilson of Houston TX; grandchildren, Chris Baer, Meredith (Jon) Wells, Kyle (Sarah) Chanski, Jordan (Gabrielle) Chanski, Miriam (Brian) Bosch, Shannon (Joe) Zimmerman, Katie (Steve) Niebauer, Steve (Jenna) Wilson, Kristi Wilson, and Craig Wilson; great grandchildren, Lilliana, Camelia and Gavin Chanski, Felix Niebauer, and Kiera Wilson; her brother, Wayne Martin; her sister, Enza Bentz, and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by siblings, June Hulteen, Lois Ann Spradlin, and Harold Martin Jr.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Friday, December 1, from 4-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N.
