Obituary for Patrick J. McKeough

Patrick J. McKeough, a resident of Highland, died peacefully on March 11, 2017. He was 79 years old.

Pat was born on May 4, 1937, in Hastings, Michigan, the seventh child of eight to Reginald and Anna (nee. Deveney) McKeough. Pat grew up in the St. Mary’s Redford community on Rutherford Street in Detroit, where he was known as “Teeks” and formed many lifelong friendships. Following graduation from Cathedral High School in Detroit in 1955, Pat earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Wayne State University and worked for a short time in California with Geico Insurance. Pat and Charlotte met on a Friday night in 1958 at Mermaid’s Cave in Detroit and were married seven years later on August 21, 1965 in Saint Rita Parish. Pat and Charlotte made their home in Detroit for a short time before settling in Highland in 1977, where they raised three children. For over thirty years, Pat worked as an insurance adjuster with Ohio Casualty and also spent some time in real estate, working as an appraiser with HUD insurance.

Pat was a regular at Bogie Lake Golf Club, and many friends from Northwest Detroit also joined him there. Always active, Pat enjoyed downhill skiing and ran the Detroit Free Press Marathon twice. Pat was Irish to the core— he possessed a great personal charm, a quick-wit, a quiet kindness and a deep faith that was all wrapped around his opinionated, obsessive, ornery, frugal, old school, lovable self.

He will be deeply missed, especially by Charlotte, his beloved wife of fifty one years; his son, Patrick D. (Susan Morello); his daughters, Molly (John) Austin, Michele (John) McDonald; grandchildren, John and Evelyn McKeough, Claire and Catherine Austin, Margaret, Emma, Olivia and Brady McDonald. Numerous extended family members and dear friends join his family in mourning his passing while giving thanks to God for his life among them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald and Anna (nee. Deveney) McKeough and siblings, Jack, Patty, Ed, Bill, Paul, Phil and Mary.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 5-8 PM, Rosary 7 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows, 1955 E. Commerce St., Milford on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11 AM. Msgr. John Budde to officiate. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Highland Township Public Library, 444 Beach Farm Cir, Highland, MI 48357.
