Obituary for Patrick M. Warken

Patrick Michael Warken, age 70, a thirty year resident of Milford, 1998 retiree of the Milford General Motors Proving Ground, Navy Vietnam Veteran and member of American Legion Post 216, died at his home on Friday, May 4, 2018 after a hard fought, eleven month battle with lung cancer.

Born January 15, 1948 in Pontiac, Michigan. His childhood days were in Pontiac and Orchard Lake area. He graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 1967. He joined the Navy in 1970 and served in the Vietnam War. Pat had a 31 year career as a test car driver and test car analyst at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford.

Retired in 1998, at the age of 52, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a Michigan Football season ticket holder for 40 years. Pat only missed one game in those forty years. He enjoyed the football Saturday’s, with his friends starting early morning starts with tailgating and more tailgating after the game. After a long day at Ann Arbor on Saturday, he would watch the recorded game all day Sunday that he saved on TV.
Pat loved his dogs and anyone else’s dog. He treated them like family and were a big part of his life. Pat also loved cars. He owned many cars since was 16 and enjoyed washing and waxing them. He spent many a day walking through car dealerships, reading car magazines, and going to the auto show.

Pat really enjoyed retirement. He enjoyed working in his yard and fixing things in the house. He enjoyed his friends. Pat hosted many parties and enjoyed having friends and neighbors over to his house. He also enjoyed going to his brother’s house in Texas during January and February.

The Warken family would like to thank Pat’s neighbors Kim and Joe Stefanik, for helping our brother through his illness. Kim was Pat’s caretaker and took him to his doctor appointments and treatments. Both Kim and Joe provided daily support and helped Pat with taking care of his house and yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard A. Warken, Sr. and Evelyn Warken, and his brother, Richard A. Warken, Jr.

He is survived by his brothers, James J. Warken of Las Vegas and Edward L. (Grace) Warken of Houston; his nieces, Jennifer L. Hughes and Dr. Kristyn A. Payne; great nephews, Hayden, Hudson & Henry Hughes and Logan Payne as well as many dear neighbors and friends.
