Phyllis Mae Marek, 85, of Commerce Township, Michigan passed away on February 16, 2022.
Phyllis Mae Gardner Marek was born in Detroit and grew up in Oak Park, Michigan. The youngest of six children, she graduated from Cooley High School in 1954 and Michigan State University in 1959. Following college, she was a school teacher at Christ the King and Keating Elementary schools in Detroit. Later, she worked for Michigan Bell, AT&T, and as an independent consultant in telecommunications.
She was a devoted mother of four daughters through her marriage to James Stem and loving grandmother of eight grandchildren. Phyllis was proud of her daughters and valued family more than anything.
Phyllis was an exceptional human being who stuck by her convictions and trusted in God and the path laid out for her. She was known for her generosity, quick wit, and love for Christ. So deep was her generosity that she spent much of her life gathering and donating clothing, gifts, and much-needed items for those less fortunate than she was.
She lived life the way she wanted and without fear. In her words, “I’ve lived a good life.”
Loving mother of Sandy Stem, Katherine Petitti, Caroline Sprengnether (Bill), and Diana Shea (Tom). Proud grandmother of Danielle Petitti, Allison Petitti, Camille Cramer, Thomas Shea, Ruby Sprengnether, Lucas Shea, Ava Sprengnether, and Katherine Shea. Dear sister of the late James Gardner, George “Jack” Gardner, Irene Dalton, Betty Murray, and Barbara Bloch. Special aunt of several nieces and nephews.
