Obituary for Powell J. Kingsley, Sr.

Powell J. Kingsley, Sr., passed onto the Lord on January 24, 2011, from complications after an over ten year progressive illness. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 10, 1941, he graduated from Rogers High School in 1959. A member of the National Merit Scholarship, he was a Rogers All, Great Lake League Quarterback, and recipient of the Toledo Blade Football Recognition Award. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1963 with a degree in Secondary Education, followed by a Master's in Administration. Powell was a member of the Blue Key, National Collegiate Honor Society and President of Theta Chi Fraternity.

Powell taught science and coached varsity defense football at Rogers High from 1963 - 1964. He then taught at Whitmer High School where he became head of the science department, coached defense varsity football, and was director of adult evening education sessions. A class advisor, he dedicated himself to encouraging students to further themselves in higher educational directions. In 1976 Powell accepted an Assistant Principal position at Wauseon High School, Wauseon, OH. In 1978, he changed careers to business which required a move to Milford, Michigan.

Powell had a magnetic zest for life and a sincere compassion for others. He loved family, golfing, football, nature, and gardening. Powell leaves a loving wife and his best friend, Polly A., loving daughters, Kelly (Ray) Hooton (Michigan) Mindy (William) Tehero (Michigan), and loving sons, David (Rachel) Kingsley (Georgia), and Powell J. (Brenda) Kingsley, Jr.(Michigan), and grandchildren, Heather N. Kingsley, Hannah R. Hooton, Lauren Hooton & Jeff Hooton (Michigan). Preceding Powell in death are his parents, Bessie and Fred Kingsley, sister, Anne B. Herrold, and brother, Tom E. Kingsley, KIA, Vietnam.

Powell and his wife, Polly, have been active members of Highland United Methodist Church, Highland, MI, where they have been surrounded by support, love and faithful strength by church family. The life of Powell Kingsley, and the wonderful man God designed him to be will be missed by all who knew him.

The celebration of Powell's life will be at Highland United Methodist Church, 680 W. Livingston Rd., Highland MI., 48357 on Wed., January 26, 2011. Time: 11 - 2:00 P.M., with Pastor James Kummer officiating. Refreshments will follow.
