Obituary for Ralph S. Herron

Ralph S. Herron, a long time resident of Milford, passed away on December 9, 2008. He was 88 years old. Born on December 6, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of George and Ethel Herron, Ralph grew up in Detroit where he was a graduate of McKenzie High School. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, and would serve in Germany and at the Battle of the Bulge. He played trumpet in the Army band. When he returned from war, he worked at Burroughs, and later Numatics from which he retired. He also worked as a Park Ranger at Kensington, and served as a Scouts leader and Little League coach for many years. Ralph was an active member of the Milford American Legion, the Milford Masonic Lodge, and was very involved at the Milford Senior Center. His greatest love, every year though, were the opportunities to be Santa for the children at the Milford parades and at Colasantis and other local businesses over the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved, Marrien in 1999, and is survived by sons, Michael (Diane) of Milford, Les (Michelle) O'Herron of Brighton, Patrick (Tina) Herron of Walled Lake; daughter, Cathey (Gary) Gannon of Southfield; grandchildren, Chris (Hollie), Jeff (Melissa), Todd (Toni), Sean (Sherlynn), Megan, Dan, Elli, Chelsea, Ryan and Cara; great-grandchildren, Halee, Sean, Madison, Emma, Nathan, & Madelyn and many loving extended family members and dear friends.

Funeral Services and Military Honors will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Friday, December 12th, at 2PM, with the Rev. Dr. John Harris officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit Thursday 3-9PM.
Memorial may be made in his name to St. Jude Childen's Hospital.
