Obituary for Raymond J. Steplitus

Raymond J. Steplitus, a long time resident of Highland Township, died at his home in the care of his family on September 13, 2012. He was seventy-nine years old.
Born in Detroit on January 27, 1933 the son of Joseph and Mary Steplitus, Ray grew up in Detroit and Hamtramck and was a graduate of Pershing High School. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he worked as a cutter/grinder with the Chrysler Corporation. He retired in 1992 after over thirty years of service with Chrysler. On August 1, 1959, in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Detroit, he married Dolores Przeworski, whom hed known since his youth and whom had lived on the opposite side of the street block in Hamtramck. They made their home in Sterling Heights for many years and later Highland Township where they have lived for over thirty-four years.
Ray was huge Tigers fan and was ever present at his grandchildrens baseball, football and soccer games and dance recitals. He enjoyed his home where he tinkered and enjoyed taking good care of his cars, cutting wood and caring for the grass and his garden. He had a strong faith and enjoyed his church community, Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland. His happy-go-lucky demeanor, good jokes and great sense of humor will be dearly missed.

In addition to Dolores, his beloved wife of over fifty-three years, he is survived by his sons, James (Sharon) and Paul (Karen); daughters, Patricia (Michael) Mikulec and Monica (Chris) Martin; grandchildren, Eric Steplitus, Alysa Miller, Matthew and Veronica Steplitus, Joshua, Jacob and Leah Mikulec, Alex and Connor Martin; his mother, Mary Steplitus; brothers, David (Marcia) and Larry (Beverly); sister, Diane (Dave) Miller and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Rd., Highland, on Monday, September 17, at 10AM with The Rev. Fr. Leo Lulko officiating. Entombment Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Saturday 5-9PM and Sunday 1-9PM, with a Rosary on Sunday at 7PM. Memorials may be made in his name to the Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund.
