Obituary for Remo Nino Caringi

Remo Nino Caringi, of Commerce Township, formerly of Detroit, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township. He was 84 years old. Born in Castelliri, Italy on February 6, 1924, Remo was the son of Benamino & Concetta (nee DArpino) Caringi. At the age of 10, he came to America with his family, settling on Detroits East side where his education was interrupted with work to help to support the Caringi household. In the throws of WWII, he enlisted with the United States Army and was assigned immediately to active duty. He fought bravely in Normandy and was wounded in Saint Lo before being reassigned to Material Transport for the remainder of his service. He returned home from war and resumed his studies to obtain his High School diploma. On September 25, 1948 he married the love of his life, Angeline Scarpone at St. Elizabeth Parish in Detroit and began his lifetime career in transportation engineering. Remo enjoyed early work with Timken Axle (Later known as American Axle) and Paragon Bridge & Steel in Novi. He was with Paragon for thirty years, briefly with Modern engineering, and eventually recruited to Chrysler where he remained for over twenty-four years until his official retirement at the age of 84. Beyond his unwavering dedication to work, he was most dedicated to his wife & five children. Since 1958 he has enjoyed his home on Lake Sherwood and caring for Remos island, now officially known as Remos U-Turn. With the help of his family, he used weekends for home & neighborhood improvement projects. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening, reserved special attention to his rose bushes, and could be found most times tinkering about his shop at home. If something was broken, chances were, Remo could fix it. When he wasnt building or bettering something, he enjoyed many memorable hunting & fishing trips with his sons. He taught his children how to snow and water ski and was happiest on the occasions that brought his family together. A loving and devoted husband for over sixty years, at the heart of all his joy was his beloved wife, Angeline. Joined by her children, numerous family members and dear friends, she mourns his passing while giving thanks to God for Remos wonderful life among them.
In addition to his beloved wife and children, Joseph, Tom (Paula), Angela Caringi, Karen (Gary) Freida, Rich (Sherry), Mr. Caringi is survived by his 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, August (Betty), Mario (Rosalie); sister, Maria (Frank) Fortuna; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and loving friends.
