Obituary for Richard Arden Martin

Born August 11, 1928 , Richard grew up in Lebanon, IN on his family’s farm. Graduating highschool as the treasurer of his class in 1946. He started to work at the Firestone Tire plant in Noblesville, IN and the following year his life was transformed; when his co-worker John Mulder led him to faith in Jesus, a faith he maintained steadfastly until his passing.

Richard served in the US Army from 1952-1954, starting as a clerk typist and was assigned to Germany during the Korean war. He had the privilege of working on early IBM computers as an EAM operator (handling card punch machines). While stationed in Germany, Richard met his eventual wife Ruth-Anne Merten during a Youth for Christ event. After finishing his tour of duty, he enrolled in Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in 1958. Next he worked at Keller Brass manufacturing for two years with close friend Alex Tedastik, where he further developed his technical skills which he applied to repairing cars, appliances, and numerous creative “inventions”. Following that stint, he moved to Germany as a missionary and two years later married Ruth-Anne after a pen-pal courtship with his “Candace.’

Faithful husband of the late Ruth-Anne Martin, Richard is survived by his children Jonathan Martin, Daniel Martin (Farrah), Priscilla Martin, Pascal Martin (Sonya), and Benjamin Martin (Catherine). He was the proud grandfather of Isaac, Tirzah, Britt, Beate, Catalina, Pascal “Seth”, Winston, Evangeline, FinnLeigh, Serena, Ruth-Anne, Gabriella, and Peter. Dear brother of Juanita Walker (the late Jim), Ruth “Lucille” Heeter (the late John), Helen Johnson (the late John), and Mary Martin. Uncle of Crista Mars (John), Jana Mason (John), as well as other nieces and nephews.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11:00am at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 404 E. Liberty St. Milford, MI 48381. Visitation begins at the funeral home at 10:00am.

Burial will take place Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 2:00PM with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the World Missionary Press in New Paris, IN in Richard’s memory.
