Obituary for Richard Darryl Zoner

Richard Zoner, of Commerce Twps., beloved husband of the late Mary Jo for 53 years, and owner of Farmer John’s Greenhouse, passed away on February 12, 2021 surrounded in love with his children by his side at the age of 74.  He and his wife devoted their lives to serving others in farming and growing the family business to what it is today.
A true family man and businessman rolled into one.  Richard was a hard-working, self-made man, who believed in a handshake and was an admiral man of his word. He had a joking way that was boisterous and memorable.  He was well respected by of his business partners and employees, many of which became some of his very best friends.  Richard was a mentor of many people over the years.
Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 27, 1946 to the late John and Marion Zoner.  He graduated from Milford High School in 1965 and would later marry the love of his life, Mary Jo Long on October 14, 1966.  Richard and Mary Jo started their first business with a fruit stand, later evolving into a well-respected garden center, Farmer John’s Greenhouse in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
In his free time, Richard loved his Monday night card parties,  golfing, and traveling the world.  He and Mary Jo had been just about everywhere across the globe.  But it was right here, in the United States, he loved the best.  He was devoted to his family and his friends, instilling values of hard work in all his children.
Loving father of Dean (Dawn) Zoner, Brad (Cindy) Zoner, and Bobbi Jo O’Neil (Cory).  Devoted grandfather of Kala, Kyle, Brandon, Nikki Jo, Noah, and Chance.  Proud great grandfather of MJ, Ava, Charlee, and Austin.  Dear brother of Tom (Mary), Don (Sharon), and the late Jarvis and the late Carey.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 11:00am - 2:00pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors 404 E. Liberty St., Milford.    Due to Covid-19, the funeral home is limited to 25 guests at a time.  We ask that those that are coming not only wear a mask, but please be brief in visiting to allow others to do the same.
Burial will take place next to his beloved Mary Jo at Highland Cemetery.
