Obituary for Richard J. Fink

Richard J. Fink Dick, a resident of Commerce Township, and former resident of Dearborn, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the age of 76. Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on October 13, 1934, Richard was the son of Clyde & Lola Fink. When he was five years old his family moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where Richard was raised; eventually graduating from Dearborn High School class of 1953. He continued his study at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelors Degree in Political Science before answering the call to serve his Country in the United States Army in 1957. Following his time in the service, Richard refocussed on his hopes to becoming a teacher, eventually earning a Masters Degree in Education from his Alma Mater. On June 23, 1962, he married Kathleen Lockwood, the love of his life in Michigan Center. Through forty-eight years of marriage, Dick & Kathleen have enjoyed the blessings of family, wonderful friendships and unforgettable memories.

Dick enjoyed learning and teaching. He was an intellectual man with an astounding recall for trivia. To have him on your team while playing Trivial Pursuit meant victory and if the accuracy of questions and answers were questionable (according to Dick) then everyone was to play according to His Rules. An avid traveller, he enjoyed seeing forty-seven of all fifty United States alongside his wife. He was also grateful to see the world abroad, which included trips throughout Europe during his Military service and family camping adventures in Canada. Back at home, he could be found finishing or beginning projects around the yard and household or reading books on History and Law among several other subjects of interest. In addition to his loving family and friends, he will be fondly remembered by the faculty and students of Garden City West Senior High School where, for thirty-two years, Mr. Fink had taught Political Science and History before his retirement.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen (nee. Lockwood) and their children, Beth (Kevin) Dunleavy, Michael (Aimee) Fink; daughter-in-law, Nancy Fink (wife of the late Tom Fink); grandchildren, Nick and Amy Dunleavy, Tommy, Matthew, Holly, Jerod and Adam Fink; sister, Donna (Larry Phagan) Ellett and many extended family members and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 404 E. Liberty, Milford on Wednesday, November 24 at 10AM with the Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial & Military Honors will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens, Westland. Friends may visit on Tuesday 2-7PM. In lieu of flowers Memorials are encouraged to the Salvation Army or Gleaners Community Food Bank. For more information phone 248-684-6645.
