Obituary for Richard John Bohl

Richard J. Bohl a resident of Jackson and former resident of Highland Township, passed away
peacefully on January 18, 2021 at Brightside Memory Care in Jackson, MI. He was 85 years old.

Born in Jackson on May 19, 1935, the son of Heinrich and Hilda Bohl, Richard graduated from Jackson High School. He continued his education at Albion College, graduating with a degree in Education.

Richard married Louise Murphy on June 13th, 1964. They settled into their longtime home on Livingston Road in the peaceful community of Highland Township.

Richard began his teaching career with Milford Public Schools and taught History before becoming a High School Counselor. During this time he obtained a Masters Degree in Education and was also a member of the Highland Historical Society. He retired after 30+ years of service and made numerous friends and lasting relationships with his students. Everyone who encountered him loved him! Richard loved to spend his time working at after school events, shopping, collecting yearbooks from Milford High School and spending time with his beloved Louise, until her passing in 2008.

Richard moved to Independence Village in White Lake and thoroughly enjoyed his time there. Upon his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, Richard moved to Jackson to be closer to family, residing at Brightside Memory Care. The family would like to thank the staff at Brightside Memory Care and Independence Village for all their loving care of Richard. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bohl (nee. Murphy, d. 2008) and by his brother, Ronald G. Bohl (d. 2000) and is survived by nieces; Erica (Christopher) Simpson, Melissa (Timothy) McClear, Michelle (William) Kitto, nephews; Steven (Jaime) Bohl, and Kevin Bohl; sister-in-law, Evonne Murphy and several great-nieces/nephews and numerous friends.
