Richard L. Motley, a life long resident of Milford died there on July 27, 2011. He was 78 years old. Born on January 29, 1933 in Milford, he was the son of William T. and Survinia S. (nee Ruddock) Motley. After his schooling he joined the U.S. Army and served with honor during the Korean War being saved from certain death in combat when the Bible he always carried in his pocket stopped the bullet that struck him in the chest. He came home, went to work and when his brother Leo died in 1952, he thought it his duty to care for his brothers widow, Ethel (Colegrove) and her four children. Richard and Ethel were married on June 16, 1955, and eventually added their son, Richard to the growing family. He spent years at Agnew Machine Co. in Milford, retiring in 1995, filling his days with family gatherings, snowmobiling, taking care of his yard, travel and sightseeing and T.V.. Richard Motley was a man of quiet optimism and abiding faith, a good neighbor, loyal friend and easy man to like. Ethel was the joy of his life and their marriage of nearly 50 years she died in late May of 2005 was a joy for family and friends to behold. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Tom (Phyllis) Motley, Leo John (Carol) and Rick Motley. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth (Ted) Blascak and his son, Gary (Sue) Motley, many grand and great grand children, a sister, Alice Chant and a host of extended family and dear friends who join together in mourning the death a good man and giving thanks to God for his life among them.
