Obituary for Richard T. Cole

Richard (Dick) Tinkler Cole, of Milford, Michigan passed away April 7, 2022 at the age of 70 after several months of declining health. Dick was born August 20, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan to Richard Tinkler Cole and Edythe Ann Cole. The oldest of five children, he attended Catholic Central High School, enjoyed playing hockey and serving as an altar boy.

He was a devoted husband to his wife Barbara for 33 years and together they lived in Milford with their two yorkies Maggie and Mindy. Dick and Barb loved to travel and host family gatherings. He loved walking in the park, especially at nearby Kensington.

He was a deeply spiritual man and devoted member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Highland. He taught catechism and loved singing in the Choir. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family drove him to build several businesses from scratch providing employment for over 1,000 employees. While he never truly retired, after stepping away from his businesses, he was involved with veterans' organizations and the Knights of Columbus as well as other charitable activities.

He had a kind, loving heart and was a selfless person. He was always concerned most about the well-being of others. He had a way of making everyone feel like they were special and to him they were each precious gifts. He had a twinkle in his eye often and the spirit of Christmas in his soul. It was not a surprise then that all holidays, especially Christmas, were important to him.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Barbara (MacKercher) Cole; children Rachel (Mike) Fuerer and Richard (Rebecca) Cole; Step-children Michael (Katie) Trebilcott and Elizabeth (Aaron) Maxim; grandchildren Chenoa Locke, Katia (Ryan) Hughes, Isabella Cole, Ben Cole, Kaila (Justin) Gerard, Christopher (Jordyn) Trebilcott, Lauren (Justin) Johnson, Kristen Trebilcott, Jake Trebilcott, Kevin Trebilcott, Hunter Maxim, Dylan Maxim; Great-grandchildren Jelena Bunton, Evelynn Carruthers, Laurel Hughes, Andrik Hughes, Chase Johnson, and Parker Johnson. Dick is survived by his brother Kevin (Lisa) Cole, sister Mary (Don) Tobe, and brothers Jonathan Cole, and Gregory Cole. Dick is also survived by his former spouse Sarah (Gillies) Spencer and many precious nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions are encouraged to Barbara E. Cole.
