Obituary for Robert "Bob" Callahan

Robert “Bob” Leo Callahan, a longtime resident of Milford, died peacefully on April 15, 2020.

Bob was born on November 28, 1924 and raised in western Pennsylvania, the second of nine children to parents, Simon and Jean (nee Adamson) Callahan. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of WWII, stationed on the Battleship USS Iowa. Following his return to the United States, Bob met the young Vivian Ciaravella and they married in 1952, made their home in Detroit where Bob began working in the automotive industry. In 1959, the family moved to Milford and together raised their four children. For thirty years, Bob enjoyed a career as a machinist with Ford Motor Company, where he worked at the Livonia transmission facility.

Bob was fond of the out-of-doors; he loved to hunt, fish and travel Northern Michigan in the Summer and Fall. In the winter months, Bob and Vivian spent time together in Florida.

Bob was a great father throughout his life and he especially enjoyed being a grandpa and great grandpa. He was always available to help his family with any building and home projects.

He will be missed by many, especially his beloved wife of nearly sixty eight years, Vivian Callahan; his sons, Robert L. (Lee) Callahan, James A. (Laura) Callahan and Thomas M. (Dianne) Callahan; grandchildren, Ann (John) Devereux, Margaret (Matt) Blouin, Daniel Callahan, Ryan (Michaella) Callahan, Justin Callahan; great-grandchildren, Avery and Lucy Devereux, Elise and Harrison Blouin; brother, William Callahan and John "Jack" Callahan, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Callahan, six siblings and his parents.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place in the future at St. Mary’s Church, Milford with Military Honors and interment taking place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
