Obituary for Robert Douglas Shimmin Jr.

On Saturday, October twelfth, two thousand and nineteen, Robert Douglas Shimmin Jr., loving husband of Dawn Marie Shimmin, proud father of Matthew Allen Shimmin, passed away peacefully at the age of fifty-five.

Robert was born on February first, nineteen sixty-four in Sandusky, Michigan to Robert Sr. and Karen Shimmin. Robert grew up in Commerce, Michigan where he attended Walled Lake Central High School. On September twenty first, nineteen ninety-one, Robert married his late wife Kelly, and on October twenty-sixth, nineteen-ninety-three had their son, Matthew. After the passing of Kelly, Bob went on to raise his son Matthew. A few years later Robert met Dawn. On June fourth, two thousand and five, Robert married Dawn and shared a great love as they continued to raise his son Matthew.

Bob’s passion for classic cars and hot rods led him to spend countless hours in the garage with his son Matthew. His nineteen sixty-four Chevelle was one of his prized possessions that they restored in the early two thousands. Robert had a love for winter sports too, including skiing and snowmobiling. There wasn’t an inch of the lower or upper peninsula that him and his buddies didn’t explore on sleds.

Robert is known to many as a person who brought people together, had a great sense of humor, provided knowledge and support wherever it was needed, and was selfless in every way. His knowledge and wisdom were admired and respected by many.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sr. He is survived by his wife Dawn; his son, Matthew; his mother and brother as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at the Lynch & Sons Funeral Home on Liberty Street in Milford, Michigan. For service information, please contact Lynch & Sons, Milford at 248-684-6645
