Obituary for Robert Oeschger

Robert L. Bob Oeschger, a longtime resident of Milford, died at his home on April 4, 2011 at the age of 75. Born in Albion, Michigan on July 27th, 1935, he was one of three children born to John & Gretchen (nee Stevenson). As a young man Bob joined the National Guard and served as a Specialist Third Class until his discharge in February of 1958. His service to his country continued in the US Army Reserves as Specialist Fourth Class and he was again honorably discharged in February of 1963. While still in the National Guard he met a beautiful young woman, Elizabeth Jane Betty Hartman, at a teen canteen and began courting her. They fell in love and celebrated their wedding on April 1, 1955. The ceremony took place at the Methodist Church in Milford and Bob and Betty have remained members of that church for over 50 years. They made their home in Milford and lived above the furniture store on Main Street, at a house on Franklin Street and several others before moving to the house on Panorama in 1987.

Bob worked briefly for General Motors before continuing his career as a Paint Repair Specialist with Ford Motor Company. He owned and operated a Volkswagen repair shop in downtown Milford and after 48 years with Ford, he retired from the Wixom Plant in Detroit. Always a patriot and proud American, he was an active member of the American Legion Post 216 and the AMVETS Post 2006 in Milford. Bob enjoyed classic cars and fishing and talking about fishing! A people person at heart, he was famous for his conversation and could quickly turn any stranger into an old friend simply by talking with them.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughter, Jackie (Sal) Mercado; son, Rick; grandchildren, Colten, Briana, Kyle, Kody and Crystal; brother of Nancy (Harvey) Hill and David (Mary) Oeschger. Also surviving are many loving extended family members and dear friends who mourn the loss of a good man and celebrate a life well lived.

A Funeral Service will be held at Milford United Methodist Church, 1200 Atlantic St, Milford, Thursday 11 AM. Rev. Gregg Mayberry to officiate. Interment and Military Honors will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty Street, Milford, Wednesday 3-9 PM. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 216 and AMVET Post 2006. For further information please call 248-684-6645.
