Obituary for Robert Paul "Bob" Black

Robert “Bob” Paul Black, a longtime resident of Milford, died peacefully in the care of his family on January 2, 2017 after a prolonged battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. Born on September 9, 1950 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Paul and Bernice Black, Bob grew up in Apollo, Pennsylvania, where he was a graduate of Apollo High School. Following high school he attended the General Motors Institute and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Bob went onto obtain his Professional Engineering license. He had a brilliant mind and went on to enjoy a long career with the General Motors Proving Grounds, and the Warren Tech Center where he worked as a mechanical engineer, earning two patents, and retired as manager of Powertrain at the Milford Proving Grounds. It was at Apollo High School that he met Denise “Chip” Taber. The high school sweethearts married on August 12, 1972. Bob and Denise made their home in Milford, where they were blessed with the births of two daughters. Bob loved restoring historic cars and taking his final product to Bakers Sunday Cruises in Milford. He was a member of the National Corvette Restorer’s Society and enjoyed opportunities to judge Corvette entries at car shows. He was also a Past President of Huron Valley Equestrian Committee. Bob spent many years serving as a horse show dad for the Milford Equestrian Team. Bob was good man and he will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to Denise, his beloved wife of over forty-four years, he is survived by his daughters, Paula (Rich) Kotowski of Whitmore Lake and Jennifer (Scott) Thum of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Riley Kotowski, Andrew, Alexander, and Apollo Thum; brother, Dr. Edgar (LaDonna) Black; brother-in-law, Mark Arthur (Kathy) Taber; nieces, Kimberly and Renee (Mayr) Taber and many cousins, dear friends, and his golden retriever, Solar.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Friday, January 6, at 5PM with Pastors Deane Wyllys and Ten Roberts officiating. Friends may visit on Friday from 2PM until the time of service.
