Obituary for Rose Theresa Kotas

Rose Theresa Kotas, a long time resident of Milford, died at her home in the care of her family on May 20, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was sixty-two years old.

Rose was born on January 20, 1953 in Detroit, the daughter of Leonard and Theresa Kulwicki Michalak. After her father died at a young age, she helped her mother raise her brother and three sisters and graduated from Ladywood High School in Detroit. On June 16, 1971 she married James P. Kotas.

Rose was a faithful and active member of St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Milford where she served as Chairperson of the St. Mary�s Church Fair Doll Booth and taught religious education classes for many years.

Rose loved to read and she enjoyed creating scrapbooks chronicling the lives of her children and grandchildren. The most important thing in her life was her family. She demonstrated that daily by calling her grandchildren every evening to talk about their day and to say goodnight. Rose enjoyed hosting the holidays and family parties and preparing and cooking all the food for the gatherings. She was famous for her macaroni salad and kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Rose fought her cancer with great determination. She strove to be with her family as long as she could, and to continue to see her grandchildren grow, which gave her the greatest of joys.

In addition to Jim, her beloved husband of over forty-three years, she is survived by her children, Lisa (Jon) Miller, Jimmy (Lynetta) Kotas, and Lori (Steve) Hughes; grandchildren, Joshua, Chloe and Brandon Miller, Frank Johnson, Amber Snyder, Jacob, Kayla and Jimmy Kotas, Emma and Ashley Hughes; siblings, Terrie (Bill Bates) Snowdon, Rene� (Len) Valente, Michelle (Richard) Gavalier, Gerard (Christine) Michalak; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe (Mary Hamlin) Kotas, Sally (Al) Harvey, Tom Kotas; Goddaughter, Emily Gavalier, and many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends who join her family in both mourning her passing and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church on Saturday, May 23, at 11AM. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford, on Friday, May 22, from 3-9PM and on Saturday from 10:30AM until the time of Mass. Rosary Friday 7PM. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Mary�s Church. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
