Obituary for Ruth Ann Powers

Ruth Ann Powers, age 90 of Milford, and a former pioneer resident on Wolverine Lake, died on June 22, 2012.

Born on January 20, 1922 in Motherwell, Scotland, she was the daughter of William George Thomson and Ruth Merry (nee Lindsay) Thomson. When Ruth was two, she and her mother, reunited with her father in Detroit, Michigan from Scotland through Windsor, Canada. She was raised in Detroit and graduated from MacKenzie High School. Ruth's love for meeting, interacting and helping people was shown through the work and activities she enjoyed. For over thirty years she worked as a teller with Manufacturers National Bank in Pleasant Ridge and West Bloomfield (now Comerica) locations. She adored the daily interactions with people who frequented the bank and after retiring on November 1, 1982 she began volunteering at Huron Valley Hospital where she could continue to help others. Ruth found joy in watching Detroit Tigers games, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, entertaining and was often captivated by a good mystery novel.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Harold Wareham, Carl Fromke and Ken Powers; and is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Vince) Hinzmann of Milford; sons, Richard "Dick" (Suzette) Wareham of Huntington Beach, CA and Jay Wareham of Hoisington, Kansas; grandchildren, Keith Wareham, Steven (Nadine) Wareham, and Sandi (Todd) Marvar; great grandchildren, Chloe, Victoria and Elizabeth Wareham and Harper Marvar; step-children Doug, Maureen and Karen; step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren:, sister-in-law, Patricia (Dick) Jagger; nephews and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Milford, 133 Detroit St., Milford, on Sunday, June 24, at 6PM with Pastor Steven Swayze officiating. Friends may gather at the church from 3PM until the time of service. Memorials may be made in her name to the First Baptist Church or to Hospice of Michigan.
