Obituary for Ruth Ann Turner

Ruth Ann Turner of Highland passed away at Huron Valley Hospital on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Ruth was born 77 years ago in Saginaw on September 28, 1940 and was the only daughter of Charles and Irene Schrems. She grew up in Saginaw and after high school graduated from Central Michigan University and became an elementary school teacher. She was hired in the early sixties to teach in Milford for Huron Valley Schools. She soon met Kurt Turner, another Milford teacher, and they were married in February 1965. Ruth and Kurt's son, Michael, was born about a year later in September of 1966. Ruth and her family lived in Milford for a few years before moving to Dunham Lake in Highland where she lived for the last 46 years.

Ruth absolutely loved her 30 years teaching 1st and 2nd grades throughout the Huron Valley. One of her proud experiences was when she was invited to the White House with other other Lakewood Elementary staff members to celebrate Lakewood being named one of the most exemplary schools in the nation.

After retirement she continued to stay busy as a substitute teacher as well as tutoring. She also was a volunteer at Horse Haven in Howell, Kensington Park in Milford, and Carl's Family YMCA where she was the 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Ruth loved to travel visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Iceland, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Kurt and is survived by her son Michael.
