Obituary for Sandra Lee Carr

Sandra Lee Carr, of Livonia, passed away peacefully on August 22nd, 2022. She was 80 years old.

Sandi was born on March 16, 1942 in Detroit, MI to her parents Clarence (Louie) and Anna (Ann) Carter. She enjoyed her childhood in Redford Township, MI and graduated from Redford Union High School a year ahead of those her age. She went on to be the first from her family to attend college by studying at Detroit Center for Creative Studies, while she worked as a key liner in the advertising business.

Soon after, she met Donald Carr of Detroit, and they were married in 1961. Since Don was in the Army, they moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he served his country. In 1964, they welcomed their first child, Pamela, and bought their first home in Livonia, MI. Just over a year later in 1965 they greeted their second child, Lisa. Then in 1968, Sandi embraced her third child, Christopher.

During the 1970’s, Sandi continued her college education by studying art and painting at Schoolcraft and Oakland Community Colleges. Her artwork was entered in local art shows, and she won awards. Eventually, Sandi combined her skills in art with her desire to help others, and she completed her degree to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). She worked as a COTA with mentally-challenged adults at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia, and also assisted handicapped children in Livonia Public Schools. During her career, she helped many people transition into society despite their handicaps.

Since Sandi was a child, she held a strong passion for horses. Once she started working in Occupational Therapy, she was able to buy her first horse, Ahmeer, and realize her dream. She was also a riding instructor at Ivory Farms in Union Lake, MI. Sandi loved all animals, and she is survived by her dog Happy.

Sandi was a very caring and generous person who shared her multiple talents with others. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, calligrapher and artist for churches and schools, caretaker for her family and friends, and an advocate for nature.

Daughter of the late Clarence and Anna Carter, Sandra is survived by her children, Pamela (Jeffrey) Carr Hagerman, Lisa (Kirk) Girard-Bevier, and Christopher (Heather) Carr; grandchildren, Tyler Carr, Anna Girard, and Kyle Carr; brothers, Ronald Carter, and Barry (Linda) Carter; also nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381, on Friday, September 2nd, at 12pm. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10am until the time of service.
