Obituary for Shari K. Goodenow

Shari K. Goodenow, a resident of Brighton and former long time resident of Milford, died at home of an apparent heart attack in her sleep on October 18, 2018 at the age of 75.
Shari was born on June 27, 1943 in Summerville, South Carolina, the daughter of Philip and Lura (Goodchild) Baetcke.  When Shari was young, the Baetcke family moved to Michigan where they settled in the Brighton area.  Shari was a 1961 graduate and Homecoming Queen at Brighton High School.  Following high school she earned her teacher’s degree at Western University and went on to teach for over thirty years as a substitute teacher at White Lake Middle School in the Huron Valley School District.

Shari married the love of her life, Gary Goodenow, on March 12, 1966 in St. Paul’s Church in Brighton and they made their home in Milford where they raised their sons Jeff and Daniel.  Shari was a wonderful mother and hers was the house that Jeff and Daniel’s friends gravitated to.  Shari and Gary also were blessed with the opportunity to be a host home for eleven foreign exchange students over the years, relationships that they share to this day.  Shari remained close to high school classmates as well, and served as Secretary for the Brighton High School Alumni Association. Shari and Gary loved to travel and enjoyed trips all over the United States and throughout Europe.  They relished opportunities to take tours in their Corvette and Shari loved her stops at the casinos, especially Soaring Eagle and Turtle Creek.  At home she enjoyed her kids and grandkids and her dogs.  She was ever generous to friends and family and enjoyed giving thoughtful gifts and encouraged her sons and their families to enjoy vacations for which she would arrange.  She will forever be remembered for her funny, dry sense of humor and her faithfulness to her family.

In addition to Gary, her beloved husband of over fifty-two years, she is survived by her son, Jeff (Joy) Goodenow; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Goodenow; grandchildren, Nico, Justin, Amanda and Alyssa Goodenow; sisters, Lura (John) Tincu and Ann (Gary) Foster; in-laws, Dennis (Kathy) Goodenow and Peg Lemaux, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel P. Goodenow in 2016.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty St., Milford, on Sunday, October 21, from 1-4PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Brighton, 400 E. Grand River Ave., Brighton, on Monday, October 22, at 11AM with The Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker-Lewis officiating.
